New Games! Nintendo Direct June 2024
Nintendo always treats us to a variety of unique titles, and Tuesday’s Nintendo Direct was no different. The June Nintendo Direct ran for 40 minutes, outlining a release schedule for the second half of 2024 and teasing a few big titles for 2025.
The company made it known ahead of time not to expect news about the upcoming Switch successor during this broadcast, but to expect a standalone Nintendo Direct later in the year. There’s still plenty left to tie us over until the next console release! Here’s everything that was announced during Tuesday’s event.
MARIO & LUIGI: BROTHERSHIP
For the first time in almost 10 years, Mario and Luigi are together again in their shared franchise! Mario & Luigi: Brothership will be released on Nintendo Switch on Nov. 7.
NINTENDO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: NES EDITION
Coming July 18, Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is based around speedrunning and challenges. There are also battle royale style modes putting you head-to-head with other players attempting to be the last one standing, progressing through rounds of challenges.
FAIRY TAIL 2
Koei Tecmo Americas Fairy Tail 2 is a take on the anime Fairy Tail. Coming this winter, you’ll take on enemies in collaborative battles in this real-time strategy game.
FANTASIAN NEO DIMENSION
From Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Fantasian Neo Dimension is a turn-based role-playing game where you’re saving the world from an baddie who wants to destroy “all mankind,” according to Nintendo. This inter-dimensional game is coming to the Nintendo Switch this holiday season.
NINTENDO SWITCH SPORTS
An exciting an unexpected update to Nintendo Switch Sports is coming this summer! Basketball will be added to the game rotation, allowing you to play with up to four players locally and online.
MIO: MEMORIES IN ORBIT
Mio: Memories in Orbit a visually pleasing platform game based in a watercolor world. Not much was shared outside of the trailer, but the game is set to release sometime in 2025.
DISNEY ILLUSION ISLAND
A new surprise update dropped for Disney Illusion Island on Tuesday, the same day as the Direct.
HELLO KITTY ISLAND ADVENTURE
Originally available only on mobile, Hello Kitty Island Adventure is coming to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles — but as a timed exclusive, Switch players will get to play it first. This super cute game seems like the perfect fit for fans of Animal Crossing: New Horizons who love Sanrio!
LOONEY TUNES: WACKY WORLD SPORTS
Launching this fall on Nintendo Switch, Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports has four arcade-style sports mini games, including soccer and basket with a Looney Tunes twist.
AMONG US
Free update alert! Among Us is getting new cremate and imposter roles on Tuesday after the Direct. These roles include Noisemaker, Phantom, and Tracker, adding new exciting elements to the game.
FARMAGIA
Farmagia is a farming simulator where you raise monsters to help you battle, playing as Ten to take on an enemy army. This title is coming to Nintendo Switch this fall on Nov. 1.
DONKEY KONG COUNTRY RETURNS HD
Originally released on the Wii, Donkey Kong Country Returns has been remastered in HD for Nintendo Switch! This DK game will drop on Jan. 16, 2025.
DRAGON QUEST 3 HD-2D REMAKE AND MORE
Three Dragon Quest titles have been remastered in HD-2D for the Nintendo Switch! Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake releases on Nov. 14, with Dragon Quest 1 and Dragon Quest 2 coming in 2025.
FUNKO FUSION
We all knew a Funko game was coming one day! Funko Fusion is an action adventure game based around Funko characters and their unique abilities, taking place on the sets of different shows and movies. This game drops on Nintendo Switch on Sept. 13.
LUIGI’S MANSION 2 HD
This fan-favorite game is getting an HD upgrade! Luigi’s Mansion 2 is coming to Nintendo Switch on June 27.
THE NEW DENPA MEN
The New Denpa Men looks like a very silly game, combining elements of Tomodachi Life and Animal Crossing with a focus on mini games and collecting Denpa Men. This game drops July 27th.
METAL SLUG ATTACK RELOADED
As a big surprise, Metal Slug Attack Reloaded is coming to Nintendo Switch on Tuesday after the Nintendo Direct!
DARKEST DUNGEON 2
Coming July 15, Darkest Dungeon 2 is a gothic roguelike role-playing game with unique graphics.
BIG NINTENDO SWITCH ONLINE UPDATE
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Four Swords, Metroid: Zero Mission, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, and Perfect Dark are coming to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion today. Bonus update — you’ll be able to play Four Swords online with friends for the first time, too!
PHANTOM BRAVE: THE LOST HERO
Play as a young woman named Marona on a journey to save her friend Ash in this super-cute adventure battle game. Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero is coming in 2025.
MARVEL VS. CAPCOM FIGHTING COLLECTION: ARCADE CLASSICS
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is seven games coming as one collection, coming later in 2024.
SUPER MARIO PARTY JAMBOREE
Super Mario Party Jamboree has a whole bunch of new boards and tons of minigames, including a board set in a mall and another on a race course. Five new board games and two from previous games are available in total. Up to 20 players can compete online, too, in new modes. It’s the biggest Mario Party yet, Nintendo said. It’s coming Oct. 17 to Nintendo Switch.
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: ECHOES OF WISOM
We finally get a game starring Zelda! In The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Zelda steps in to save the day when Link vanishes. This Link’s Awakening-style update to the franchise is coming Sept. 26.
NINTENDO SWITCH LITE HYRULE EDITION
A new Nintendo Switch Lite is coming on Sept. 26 alongside The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Featuring an all-gold body with Hyrule crest on the back, this Switch Lite is a new contrast to previous Zelda-themed console releases.
JUST DANCE 2025 EDITION
Hundreds of new songs are coming in this latest franchise release, Just Dance 2025. Stay tuned for popular songs from a variety of artists, including Ariana Granda, Enur, Sia, and more!
LEGO HORIZON ADVENTURES
Announced first during this year’s Summer Game Fest, Nintendo provided another peak at Lego Horizon Adventures, coming this holiday season.
STRAY
Stray, the visually-pleasing adventure game where you play as a cat, is coming to Nintendo Switch towards the end of 2024.
TALES OF THE SHIRE: A LORD OF THE RINGS GAME
I wasn’t expecting an LotR life-sim, but that’s what we’re getting! Live as a hobbit in Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game, full of adventuring and home-decorating alike. This game is coming to Nintendo Switch sometime during the 2024 holiday season.
ACE ATTORNEY INVESTIGATIONS COLLECTION
No objections here! The Ace Attorney Investigations Collection brings two Ace Attorney games to the Nintendo Switch, dropping Sept. 6.
THE HUNDRED LINE: LAST DEFENSE ACADEMY
The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is a unique story game where you must defend the city from cute-but-deadly enemies. Nintendo is set to release this title in early 2025.
ROMANCING SAGA 2: REVENGE OF THE SEVEN
Coming Oct. 24, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is a turn-based story game with flashy and strategic battles.
METROID PRIME 4: BEYOND
We haven’t heard anything about the upcoming Metroid Prime since it was first announced in 2017, but we got a first-look during today’s Direct. Development had to be restarted under a new studio in 2019, with Retro Studios bringing us the final game. Nintendo is expecting to release this title sometime in 2025.
